Do you want us to pay for this is that why you’re not posting your ‘perfect’ white balance. If you don’t know how to color balance a shot as a colorist, your’re in the wrong business.

Topic: Tips, Tricks and Tutorials / Tipical newbie question.. be patient with me God has not finished with me yet!!!

Hi Francesco,

Im trying to understand what you mean by “I’d like to simply use the FX vignette correction I see the effect in Color but I’m not able to export the corrected video sequence to FC”

I admit, Color looks imtimidating at first but once you know your way around, it’s a really nice program to do your color correction in.

For beginners there’s the Studio 006 Podcast which is a nice beginners guide to Color. make sure you start at Episode 32 which is the oldest episode there.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/studio006/id262446058

Steve Hullfish has some introductory tutorials on Pro Video Coalition

http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/shullfish/P48/

Same deal. Oldest episode first, work your way back through the blog posts to the front.

There’s also some introductory tutorials here

http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/applecolor

Another one here

http://vimeo.com/1056932

Good luck, once you get your head around it , it’s a really cool program! Don’t be afraid, you can’t break anything

Hey Bruno,

After trawling through the net yesterday researching this look, I came across many, many pages of recipes, but I distilled them down to just four links and here they are.

Topic: Tips, Tricks and Tutorials / Lomo Picture Look

Hi Bruno,

See Edited info at the end of this post for import instructions

I’ve only had a cursory look, but it seems like ‘cross processing’. There’s a preset I created on the site called Ekta Cross Pro
Check it out, it’ll give you a start.

http://www.coloruser.net/grades/34-ekta-cross-pro

Here’s the test image:

EDIT

In order to use the image in Color, you need to convert it to tiff.
Drop it on Quicktime 7 and File >> Export >> Movie to Image Sequence, with settings as Tiff at 24 fps.
This will create two files. Import one of them into Color through the Setup Room by navigating to them then using the Import Shot feature in the Setup Room.

Topic: Tips, Tricks and Tutorials / Please which way?

Can’t give a detailed answer right now, but will say that colour/luma keys and multiple secondaries will be your friend.

check out creative cow.net
and geniusdv.com
and bright line pictures
for the general overall principle. Learn that and then experiment with your imagery.

Also, if your’e really new to Color , I recommend this video podcast
to get you up and running quickly. Start with ep32, which is in fact the first lesson.

Topic: The art of Color / Creamy fashion grade

It looks kinda lo-contrast magenta-ish with yellow highlights ?

Primaries

I lifted the blacks and pushed them in a Magenta direction.
With the mids I pushed them warm and brought the levels down a bit.

Desaturation main and Highlights

ColorFx

I luma keyed the highlights

and gave them a good dose of blur and composited that over itself using Nattress G-Blend set to Screen mode, just to ‘puff’ the highlights a bit.

Primary Out

Bring down the highlights so you can raise the midtones, thus making that range less contrasty. Send the highlights yellow-ish.

However, not all contrast should be banished so I added a gentle S-curve to bring a little of it back in the shadows.

Hope this helps.

Push the Shadows Cyan a bit, Push the Mids Yellow a bit.
Add a little bit of contrast curve.

De-Sat #note desaturated highlight saturation.

Use these as a starting point. Improve and adjust to taste.

Topic: Workflow / workflow premiere pro

Yeah, you could Export an uncompressed Quicktime “Baked Master” out of Premiere and an EDL as well. Inside Color, import the EDL, ticking “Use as Cut List”, then browse to your uncompressed QT and it should import with the cuts in the right place. I should note however that this only worked for me on simple cuts-only projects with everything on V1. Anything more than cuts and dissolves, then it doesn’t work so well ! so I would go with the XML way I suggested earlier.

Hi Estaban, I’m just going from what I vaguely remember. Does PP have an ability to import and export FCP XML?

I found this tutorial. It seems like it answers your question.
If you have a flash-blocker in safari, disable it or use a different browser, coz I can’t see that tutorial in safari with click-to-flash. It doesn’t even show up.
I would then follow the instructions in this tutorial on how to prep your timeline for import into Color. Hope this helps!

I tried building your tree here. Obviously the footage that i’m using is not going to look the same. You’re doing some kind of blur/ outer glow?

what’s your intent? how is this supposed to look?

maybe post a graded frame of one that looks right and an ungraded frame so we can apply the effect here?

other than that, I’m not sure.
