Since there are 4 different settings (Primary In, Secondary, Color FX and Primary Out) we settled for the .colorgrade file that contains all of them.
If you want to post a Color FX just create one and save it as a .colorgrade leaving the other rooms untouched. That way Coloruser.net just needs to store one format.

The grades are not supposed to be a one click solution. They all need some tweaking depending on the shot they’re applied to.

Ahh. Thank you for that. I tried looking through the manual, but I couldn’t find the page. You might want to consider making a FAQ on the site regarding this.

You can store them in any folder you want. Why not in a folder called “Grades from Coloruser” ;)

In Color you open them in Setup room > Grades tab. Check the Color Manual page 268.

Could you explain where to put the colorgrade files? I’m still a bit confused.

I’m a fan of RGB/Lum Curves (as you can see in the Mogadishu grade) so I used Primary Out and Secondaries to create the looks for my current grades. In the Color manual they recommend using Primary In just for color balancing and correcting contrast range.
If you need Lift/Gamma/Gain and Hue Offsets to create a look then use one of the Secondaries (by affecting the entire image) or Primary Out where you also have RGB/Lum Curves at your disposal. That way you can create a look for the entire show and still be able to color correct and balance separate shots with Primary In.

For Coloruser uploads I figure it’s best to leave Primary In at default or for balancing the before-image.

Great info! Thanks for the heads-up, AG.
Can you confirm, since these grades are designed to create a certain look over a range of cuts, that the Prim/Sec Inputs are left alone, since they would be for color correcting? In other words, these grades are designed for pictures that have already been corrected to a natural look, right?

Thanks,
EZ

Well actually they can be used for any room including Color FX since it’s a bundle of all of them.
If you want to use them separately you can. But the thought is to apply the whole grade from Coloruser as a starting point.

Make just a Color FX and save it in Setup > Grades

Open it in finder with “Show package contents” and there you will see:
  • YourGrade_in.pcc (Primary In)
  • Your_Grade_out.pcc (Primary Out)
  • Your_Grade.scc (Secondaries)
  • Your_Grade.cfx (Color FX) <—This is the only room that is active
  • Your_Grade.lsi (preview image)

So even if a room isn’t used it’s still saved in the .colorgrade file.
I didn’t use Primary In or Color FX for the grades I uploaded for example.

Coloruser.net stores the .colorgrade file since it contains both the look and the Color FX.

Keep in mind, they’re grades, not a colorFX item. You can use them in the Primary In/Out rooms.
Very nice grades, by the way.
