Topic: Workflow / -c

No, -C is a temporary file of Apple Color and sometime while saving, color stucks and -C file size goes up until you lose all of your free disk space.

Topic: The art of Color / Correcting over exposed shots

There is no rules for doing contrast, but!

the contrast is the difference between top range light and low range light
when you doing something, you should always control the contrast, to prevent overexposure and underexposure in top and low ranges.
So if you have overexposure, dont stuck your brains, leave top rangs as it is and do your corrections in mids and lows, but dont forget to control tops.

for an example:
Normal contrast is 80-90% of tops and 8-10% of lows
Low contrast is 50-60% of tops and 13-16% of lows
High contrast is 95-100 of tops and 2-4% of lows

but if you have 102-110 overexposure for tops, then you have serious problem.
and there is camera quality level means so much!

5DMkII never forgives you overexposure and undereposure, just +-1 stop, but Arri D21 will feel you much better for 3-4 stops for tops and 3-4 stops for lows

Topic: Workflow / Output colours all wrong - Help!

Dude, you got the same problem as everybody gets, but unlike other you see the problem.
1. The problem is a gamma conversion from 1.8 to 2.2 – the first thing you should know (use gamma correction filter on output from fcp with value 0.88)
2. Every single codec works his with own color space and every next time you convert video, for an example, i used DivX Converter and i got deep shadows and high contrast with high saturation.

how to decide a problem.
firstly, when you exporting from fcp, export Prores with “Automatic gamma correction – None” in codec settings. So FinalCut would not correct the gamma of project to 2.2 when exporting. Then you will not get trible gamma correction, 1st when exporting from color to fcp (you going from 1.8 of color to working 2.2 of FCP), 2nd when exporting from FCP to prores with gammacorrection from 2.2 to 2.2, so you going 4.84 gamma and 3rd time you getting camma loss its when you converting to DivX, you going from 4.84 to 10.64 of gamma amount.

in different situations, the count of gamma changes may be different, some people can get 1st and 3rd and some people 2nd and 3rd…

but anyway, look for gamma losless

Topic: The art of Color / Need help creating this look

The first problem is low color depth u getting from video devices. The only way just to use Arri D21 with 16Bit Uncompressed RAW
dont forget you show a photo and dont forget how much photo raw better then compressed video source
