Working with skin tones

Is there any tips and ideas on how to work with skin tones in color correction. I want to make a real film look. I have been working with color correction and Apple Color for some time, so I know the basics for standard correction. But I never worked with ColoFX Room before. |

What I’ve done a couple of times is select the skin tones using a HSV node, then giving it a blur and add it on top of the video. It will smooth the skin somewhat, giving it a fairy tale kind of look. Some clients has specifically asked for it – others haven’t even mentioned it when they see the grade. They go something like this: “wow, that looks good. What did you do?” They can see there’s a difference – but can’t tell what the difference is. But I won’t recommend doing it every time. In some scenes or shots maybe. And be careful not to overdo it. Sometimes I select the skin tones in a secondary and lighten it a little, just giving it a tiny bit more glow without actually giving it a blurred glow, like mentioned above. |

Hi Ola, How do you mean “add it on top of the video” ? |

There’s an Add node. Look it up and fiddle with the settings :) You can chose how much of the two sources (two inputs – I usually leave one of them clear) you add to the video on the timeline.

Sorry Ola, it should be fixed now. Your image above now has the correct scale. Cheers! |
